The Argentine Center for Landscape Architecture (CAAP) is the only association of landscape architecture professionals in Argentina, represented by the International Federation of Landscape Architecture (IFLA), which brings together the national associations of member countries.
Need for the Profession
Since the appearance of the first human settlements, the environment, the surroundings, and the landscape have been transformed, generating development in line with human needs. The establishment of human settlements involves the management of the qualities, capacities, and potential of the environment, encompassing three closely interlinked disciplines that generate the human-made environment: Architecture, Landscape Architecture, and Urban and Regional Planning.
Definition of the profession
The definition of Landscape Architect, Final version approved by the International Federation of Landscape Architects (IFLA) World Council 2003, Banff, Canada.
The tasks included are:
- Develop or improve theories, policies, and methods for landscape design, management, and planning at local, regional, national, and multinational scales. Develop policies, plans, and implement and monitor proposals, as well as develop new or improved theories for national parks and other conservation and recreation areas. Develop new or improved theories and methods to promote environmental awareness and undertake the planning, design, restoration, management, and maintenance of cultural and/or historic landscapes, parks, grounds, and gardens. Plan, design, manage, maintain, and monitor both functional and aesthetic developments of the built environment in urban, suburban, and rural areas, including private and public open spaces, parks, gardens, streetscapes, plazas, housing developments, cemeteries, monuments, tourist, commercial, industrial, and educational complexes, sports fields, zoos, botanical gardens, recreation areas, and farms. Contribute to the planning, aesthetic and functional design, siting, management, and maintenance of infrastructure such as roads, dams, energy, and other major projects. Undertake assessments landscape, including environmental and visual impact assessments with a view to establishing development policies or the development of projects themselves. Site inspection, analyzing factors such as climate, soil, flora, fauna, surface water, groundwater, and drainage, advising on work methods and sequences of operations for projects related to the landscape and the built environment. Identify and develop appropriate solutions related to the quality and use of the built environment, in urban, suburban, and rural areas; prepare designs, work plans, specifications, cost estimates, and schedules. Monitor the completion and supervise the construction of proposals to ensure compliance with plans, specifications, costs, and schedules. Conduct research, prepare scientific papers and technical reports, develop policies, teach, and advise on matters relating to Landscape Architecture. Manage landscape planning and design projects. Perform all related duties. Supervise other workers.
